The congos fisherman vinyl. Luckily the album was professionaly remastered and re released on cd as the blood fire edition. Many critics consider this 1977 album one of the best roots records of all time and at the very least it was perry s apex only junior byles beat down babylon is an equal contender. This is the remixed version of the album released in 1978. Everything here is essential listening and while i would also like to see the original mix re released at some point separately this reissue is by no means worse off for not including it.

The group splitted in the early 1980 s but reformed in the mid 1990 s. The opening track fisherman has very noticable drop outs and the album as a whole has various problems with eq and tape hiss. Included in this edition is a thick booklet which has a detailed explaination of the limitations of the original master tapes which were quarter inch recorded on a teac 4 track. On heart of the congos he was brilliant and across the record s original ten tracks perry created a masterpiece of music.

Throughout the 30 day period the vinyl factory will be pressing limited edition vinyl on site on the vf press. The dropouts in fisherman especially bothered me. Now initially i was a bit put off by the sub par sound quality of the original release vinyl. C4 to f3 are dubs disco mixes seven and twelve inch versions.

The original album is present in full along with several bonus tracks dubs discomixes etc. The congos roy johnson and cedric myton recorded what has become a landmark in roots reggae and the benchmark for all who came after when they collaborated with master producer lee perry at his black ark studio in kingston jamaica in 1977. This 3xlp release of the black ark classic heart of the congos is an incredible reissue in my opinion. Limited to 300 copies.
