Natalie zimmerman played by paula prentiss as a combination of sally kellerman and lucille ball his new partner thinks valnikov is insane. Reviewed in the united states on august 17 2017 wambaugh is simply the best at writing about the wacked out criminals and bizarrely motivated victims that cops meet. The black marble 1978 is i think joseph wambaugh s triumph. The characters are so deep and true the humour is totally human the situations are tense desperate and awful but that sick sense of humour of wambaugh s works so well.
Being poorly bound we held the book together with a rubber band as we passed it to yet another person. This is a police drama where the central case is a dog napping. All of us loved it. The black marble pool is a murder mystery but it didn t really work for me in this context. Many of his novels include large amounts of tragedy but that s not the case this time although there are still a few brutal crimes described. The black marble is a 1980 mystery romantic comedy film directed by harold becker and starring robert foxworth paula prentiss and harry dean stanton. A fan of joseph wambaugh from that day forward. Not to mention some of the strange characters carrying a badge. 1937 began his writing career while a member of the los angeles police department.
The black marble is one of joseph wambaugh s most humorous crime fiction novels. The police station running gags are too running to be real the black comic touches like a pet funeral prove again that wambaugh ain t waugh and andrushka and natasha deserve better than a pure musical comedy ending. It is a near perfect crime novel.
